Martin County land conservation moves ahead following approval of half-percent sales tax

Martin County’s new half-cent sales tax, approved by nearly 64% of voters, could generate $183 million over 10 years to purchase up to 45,700 acres of environmentally sensitive land, potentially expanding Jonathan Dickinson State Park, wildlife corridors and key conservation areas. The Environmental Lands Oversight Committee will review and rank willing seller properties before final approval by the County Commission, marking what leaders call a legacy investment in preserving the county’s natural character.
