Martin County Forever pushes ahead despite Florida Forever funding slowdown

Martin County Forever is continuing its conservation work despite a slowdown in new funding for Florida Forever, one of its longtime state partners. Approved by voters in 2024, Martin County Forever uses a half-cent sales tax to generate about $20 million annually for preserving environmentally sensitive lands. County officials say the lack of new Florida Forever funding in the 2026-27 state budget will not stop local efforts, and the county is continuing to pursue key land acquisitions, including some without state funding for now. Officials also hope to leverage future state dollars if Florida Forever funding becomes available again.
